What does it all cost?

Joining the At Home Fitness franchise costs £500.  This covers all the equipment you need to start your business, plus uniform, business stationery, admin tools and a week's training course.

Are there any ongoing costs?

There is a monthly management fee of £399 which pays for marketing to get you customers.  You only pay this fee when your turnover exceeds £550 so you never make a loss.  It also covers CPD courses, REPS membership & insurance, unlimited (within reason) business stationery, marketing materials and goody bags for your customers.  You also get constant support in every aspect of running your business via phone, email & visits.

How much can I earn?

Established franchises have a turnover of £22000 - £35000 depending on how many hours they choose to work.  Trainers in London can earn a little more.

Can you guarantee I will have a successful fitness franchise?
No franchise or business can guarantee success.  You are running your business so you also have a big responsibility in your success.  However the more closely you follow our advice, the more success you will have.  When you take our franchise you are buying the expertise and proven results of a company who know fitness and have helped many other trainers succeed.

How many hours will I work?

The number of appointments you have each week is up to you, providing you are available for at least 25 appointments.  Most trainers choose to do between 25 and 35 appointments per week.  Each appointment is one hour.  Most trainers work Monday to Friday at the hours customers want sessions.  Some also choose to work Saturday mornings.

Will you pay for my petrol?

No.  You pay for costs associated with running your business that are not already covered by the monthly management fee.

Do you have a vacancy in my area?

If we don't already have a Personal Trainer in your area then we can consider you for a franchise.  To find out where we already have trainers click Personal Trainer locations.

Will a franchise work where I live?

Before offering a franchise contract we will do an assessment of your area to see if it is viable.  To work, there needs to be a large town or a city in your territory and you need to be able to get around it easily.  If we don't believe your area is suitable we will not interview you.

How big would my territory be?

The size of your territory depends on where you live.  The golden rule is that you need to be able to drive across it in 30 minutes or less.  If it is too big you spend all your time driving and not seeing customers.

Do I need to have a car?

Yes.  The kit we supply you with cannot be transported any other way.

Would other Personal Trainers work in my territory

No.  Each territory is exclusive so we would not put another At Home Fitness trainer in your territory.  Big cities such as Birmingham do have more than one trainer, but their area within the city is exclusive.

What is the selection process?

Firstly you apply with a CV and if suitable we will offer you a telephone interview. After the telephone interview, if you're happy and we think you're suitable you get a final interview.  Final interview involves designing and delivering a PT programme, a question & answer session and a running test (2km in 10 minutes).  Success at final interview leads to a franchise offer.

How quickly could I get set up?

The selection process typically takes 2-4 weeks. Preparing for a franchise and undergoing franchise training normally takes a further 2-4 weeks.

Are there any hidden costs?
We supply everything you need to start and keep running your business.  The only major things not covered are your car and the cost of running it, and running your 'business office'.  To run your office you need a computer & internet connection, printer and a secure place such as filing cabinet or a desk with a lockable drawer for client records.

It sounds too easy, what’s the catch?
You need to be prepared to work really hard.  We give you the skills, tools & support to run your business, but only you can put the work in to make it succeed.  You need to keep yourself fit because our franchises are physically as well as mentally demanding.  You also need to listen to us and take our advice.

How long am I committed for?
We want people who are serious about a career in the fitness industry and want to build a great business.  The initial franchise contract is for four years and renewable after that.  If circumstances meant you needed to sell the franchise within a four year period we would help you do this as quickly as was reasonably possible.

Do I need any qualifications to become a franchisee?
No.  All our franchisees have an industry-standard, level three Personal Trainer qualification.  If you do not hold one we can help you get one.  You must also consent to a CRB (criminal record) check.

I can't afford the fitness Franchise fee.  What can I do?
The At Home Fitness Franchise is recognised by HSBC as a successful model.
HSBC will also look at applications for finance more favourably because they trust At Home Fitness to deliver a successful business.

How do you get customers?
We have spent years becoming experts in marketing.  We have read loads of books, attended courses, learned online and most importantly tested dozens of different methods.  This has helped us learn what works and what doesn't.  We are still learning because advertising changes.  For example Yellow Pages is now pretty unsuccessful but when we started it was our second biggest source of customers.  Social Media hardly existed when we started but now is a key part of our marketing.  We have teams of professional designers, web experts and contacts who are part of our marketing strategy.

Why should I take a franchise?  Isn’t it cheaper to set up my own business?
If you have solid experience in marketing to bring in customers and know how to run a business, it will probably be cheaper to set up by yourself.  However most Personal Trainers fail because they either don't get enough customers or can't retain them.  Have a look at how many other home trainers there are in your area and think about how you are going to out-market them.  We know how because we have more experience and a bigger marketing budget.  That is why we will help you succeed quickly and without wasting lots of money.
